| Summary | 0001792: [Smart3][ATV10][ATV12] Issue observed when FW is updated(rollback) in sleep and factory-default is automatically progressed | ||||
| Description | Hi Kerwin JIRA is https://jira.skbroadband.com/browse/BPM-21622 There is a sleep mode update in the test items verified by the SKB QA team. The SKB verification step is as follows. 1) enter STB sleep 2) FW upgrade 3) check automatically enter sleep state after upgrade 4) The tester presses the power button and the STB wakes up normally In normal cases, there is no problem, but issue observed if factory-default automatically occurs when FW is updated in sleep state - OS12 -> OS10 ( OS downgrade , factory-default automatically occurs) - OS12 -> OS12 ( security patch downgrade , factory-default automatically occurs ) In the above case, the final state is that the STB is not automatically entering the sleep state. ( There is no video screen but setup-wizard is running. ) Please review how we can solve this issue Thank you YK.Jung | ||||

Hi Jerry The main scenario of this issue will be working on SPTEK. However, an issue was observed that HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable did not work for the first time attached test log 1) after upgrade 08-28 18:38:03.223 D 3565 3565 Display : ++DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable called 08-28 18:38:03.223 D 3565 3565 hal_display: hal_display:HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable v100(display on off=on) ==> video does not output even when HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable "on" issue status In this case, after reconnecting the HDMI, the video is output. 2) press power button 08-28 18:38:20.329 D 3565 3565 Display : ++DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable called 08-28 18:38:20.329 D 3565 3565 hal_display: hal_display:HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable v100(display on off=off) 2) press power button 08-28 18:38:31.632 D 3565 3565 Display : ++DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable called 08-28 18:38:31.632 D 3565 3565 hal_display: hal_display:HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable v100(display on off=on) ==> video does output even when HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable "on" Please review the issue (1) Thank you YK.Jung |

Hi Jerry Please update the progress. Thank you YK.Jung |

Hi Younkwang, I test the FW-downgrading OTA, and I can't reproduce the issue. My OTA FW is ATV12 to ATV10: V15.537.56_SD => V15.536.37_SD And I can't find another thing: there is no "HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable" log while testing. (also no "Display : ++DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable called") So could you please tell me: 1.What's your test FW? 2.What's the test steps? 3.Is there "HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable" log when reproducing the issue? (dump a log again) 4.What's the reproducing rate of this issue? Thanks~ Sam |

Hi Sam This issue is 100% reproduced during downgrade in sleep mode. Test FW v15.537.56 (OS12) v15.540.16 (OS10) The test staff is 1) FW version of STB is v15.537.56 2) Press the RCU Power button. enter STB sleep 3) Update with v15.540.16 FW at sleep mode ( Please ask Jerry how to update in sleep mode. private_recovery ) 4) After the update is complete, the LED is white / TV shows no input signal So far, there's no problem 5) Press the RCU Power button. ( please check case_1.mp4 ) SPTEK call the HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable "on" but The TV still has no output. ( no-signal at TV) => This is the issue 6) Press the RCU Power button. ( please check case_2.mp4 ) STB enters the sleep mode ( it's ok ) 7) Press the RCU Power button. STB wakes up ( video is ok , it's ok ) if you don't understand , please contact me again Thank you YK.Jung |

Hi Younkwang, The root cause is : the current FW won't turn on HDMI output display if no turning off first. I already fix it. please use this test FW to verify: /release_by_fxn/smart3_test/20230915_mantis1792/usb_bfx-at100_V15.540.17_540r18aDisplayOn_SD.zip Thanks~ Sam |

HI Sam I checked, but it didn't solve it. When the power button was pressed, the following log was displayed, but the TV had no input signal. =================================================== console:/ $ logcat | grep -i HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable 09-15 16:10:07.627 3573 3785 D hal_display: hal_display:HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable v100(display on off=on) =================================================== Please check it again Thank you YK.Jung |

Hi Younkwang, I have retried downgrade OTA in my side, and it is still normal: FW version: V15.537.56_SD to 540r18aDisplayOn_SD TV: sharp 4T-C60BJ1T Steps: 1.press Btv button to sleep mode(V15.537.56_SD) => HDMI display disabled 2.type in console: "reboot private_recovery" 3.wait OTA and until the boot completed(white light on, not flashing) 4.press Btv button to wake up => HDMI display enabled And I find that there are logs of set HDMI display enabled: 09-15 16:10:07.627 3500 3708 I SystemControl: setSourceOutputMode, displayon writeSysfs 09-15 16:10:07.630 3500 3708 I SystemControl: write /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/stop_hpd, val:0 end So currently I don't know why your TV didn't shows out the signal. Could you tell me your: 1.test FW version (12 and 10) 2.test steps 3.test TV And could you please try other TVs? Thanks~ Sam |

Hi Sam https://mantis.cnsbg.foxconn.com/vaas/view.php?id=1792#c14139 1.test FW version (12 and 10) 2.test steps Test FW v15.537.56 (OS12) v15.540.16 (OS10) => This content has been mentioned before 3.test TV UMAX TV I connected it to another TV and checked it again. The resolution is set at TV after press "Btv Power", but there is no video output This is being worked slightly differently. but it's also an issue. Video is being output after reconnecting the HDMI cable. Please check the attached video and log file KakaoTalk_20230918_145920543.mp4 BFX-AT100_20230918-144859.zip And since it takes a long time to test the whole thing I will tell you the same test method more simply. 1) Put the FW you want to test into the USB stick. 2) Remove keep_data from the USB stick. If no such file(keep_data) exists, factory default will automatically occur after the upgrade. 3) Connect the USB stick to the STB. 4) Type the following command in console. reboot private_recovery then after the reboot , It becomes factory default while updating to FW of usbstick (because there is no keep_data file) After the upgrade is complete. Please check the items below 4-1) The TV shall show no input signal. ( LED white ) 4-2) When the BTV power button is pressed, a video shall be displayed on the TV. please check 4-2) And I don't understand that there is no problem with your test results. The your test result is different from mine. Please send me the video file you tested Thank you YK.Jung |

Hi Younkwang, I find that if I OTA from 10 to 10, M/W will send HDMI display off command when booting ("btvSocHalService_HDMI_SetEnable" function): 09-11 20:48:55.231 3591 3784 W btvSocHalService-JNI: btvSocHalService_HDMI_SetEnable::863 : in 09-11 20:48:55.231 3592 3795 D Display : ++DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable called 09-11 20:48:55.232 3592 3795 D hal_display: hal_display:HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable v100(display on off=off) But when OTA from 12 to 10, M/W won't call this function. This will cause the wrong status set. Could you let M/W do the same thing(btvSocHalService_HDMI_SetEnable "off") when FW is updated in sleep state? Thanks~ Sam |
Hi Younkwang, Furthermore, you can tell M/W that they can use skb auto_reset property for confirming the device is silently OTAing: console:/ # getprop |grep auto_reset [sys.mode.auto_reset]: [false] [sys.skb.auto_reset]: [false] If they find this property "true", they need to btvSocHalService_HDMI_SetEnable "off" for completing HDMI display output settings. |
Hi Sam Yang I don't understand how you check. Take a video of what you tested and send it to me. I think I have to know how you tested it. And the function below is the function that MW calls HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable MW is To display AV(HDMI), call HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable v100 (display on off=on) To turn off AV(HDMI), call HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable v100 (display on off=off). We only need to implement exactly the functions that MW calls. The problem is that MW called HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable v100 (display on off=on) to display AV(HDMI) but the first time it's not working. After that, it works. Let's talk about the again tomorrow Thank you YK.Jung |
Hi Younkwang, I can reproduce by this method: "2) Remove keep_data from the USB stick. If no such file(keep_data) exists, factory default will automatically occur after the upgrade." Thanks~ Sam |
Hi Younkwang, I fix this issue by sending hdmi display phy command first before the current function. And already verify on my side. Please verify with the test FW: release_by_fxn/smart3_test/20230921_mantis1792/usb_bfx-at100_V15.540.17_r18dOpenPhyFirst_SD.zip Thanks~ Sam |

Hi Sam I can't test today, but I'll let you know after I check on Monday Thank you YK.Jung |
Hi Sam Yang Sorry, but I can't download the file you uploaded because there is a problem with the ftp server today. Could you send the file again by google drive or another way? Thank you YK.Jung |
Hi YK, Wooshin told us that your FTP has been restored, you can check it again. Thanks, Jason |
Hi Jason OK , I will check it after meeting Thank you YK.Jung |
Hi Sam The behavior is still weird. With the CEC turned off, this issue seems to be still being observed. I'll check a little more and let you know tomorrow. I did a test on three different brands TV Thank you YK.Jung |
Hi Sam I tested it with two TVs. ( LG / UMAX ) The video is not output when the power button is first pressed. (The issue is still being observed. ) ( when I reconnect the HDMI cable,video is ok ) Please check it again. Test FW is [ro.system.build.version.incremental]: [15.540.17-20230921] [ro.system.build.version.release]: [10] [ro.system.build.version.sdk]: [29] [ro.vendor.build.version.incremental]: [15.540.17-20230921] [ro.vendor.build.version.release]: [10] [ro.vendor.build.version.sdk]: [29] [ro.vendor.fw.version]: [15.540.17] [ro.vendor.vasott.version]: [k000b-540r18dOpenPhyFirst_SD-20230921] Thank you YK.Jung |
Hi Younkwang, The root cause is the status of standby/resume(sleep/wake up) is wrong because M/W doesn't send "HDMI display off" command to HAL. Anyway, I fix this by executing HDMI display off operation if vendor.sys.auto_reset=true (downgrade OTA or reboot system_reset,...). Please verify with the test FW: release_by_fxn/smart3_test/20230928_mantis1792/usb_bfx-at100_V15.540.17_540r18fAutRstProp_SD.zip Thanks~ Sam |

Hi Sam I tested the FW you sent me several times There is no particular issue is there anything else to verify? If there is nothing else to check , please apply it to UI541. ( use BPM-21622 for JIRA id to commit ) Thank you YK.Jung |

Hi Younkwang, eagle10: 2023-10-06 17:54:36 | sam.cy.yang@mail.f.. | af8be6b | vendor/foxconn | [BPM-21622] fix HDMI display on issue when wipe-data OTA(1792) After verifying, I'll commit to eagle12. Thanks~ Sam |

Hi Younkwang, In Eagle12: I want to test 12 downgrade security patch to 12. And when I OTA from ATV12 to 12 with no keep_data, the power key can't work: 10-11 20:58:33.772 3749 3915 I WindowManager: interceptKeyTq keycode=26 interactive=true keyguardActive=false policyFlags=22000001 10-11 20:58:33.774 3749 3914 I WindowManager: keycode : 26 - processed. by skb function key isUserSetupComplete=false 10-11 20:58:33.976 3749 3915 I WindowManager: interceptKeyTq keycode=26 interactive=true keyguardActive=false policyFlags=22000000 10-11 20:58:33.978 3749 3914 I WindowManager: keycode : 26 - processed. by skb function key isUserSetupComplete=false M/W doesn't call function "HAL_DISPLAY_HDMI_SetEnable", so HDMI display won't be on. Please check it with M/W. Thanks~ Sam |
